Temporary power and temperature control supplier Aggreko will provide the power at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The temporary power, which will be supplied across the Games’ 13 sports venues and the Athletes Village, will be delivered via 103 individual generator sets connected through a network of more than 1,000 distribution boards and 200km of cabling. The system will be will be supported 24 hours a day by a team of engineers and technicians.

The temporary power systems will form an integral part of the Commonwealth Games sustainability planning by utilising existing venues and providing all additional power requirements through temporary infrastructure.

“We are absolutely delighted to be an official supplier to Glasgow 2014 and to be playing a key role in staging an event that will showcase this wonderful city and its people,” said Aggreko chief executive Rupert Soames. “We look forward to supporting the Organising Committee by providing a seamless temporary power supply across all competition venues and ensuring an uninterrupted television broadcast to millions of viewers throughout theworld.”

Michael Cavanagh, chairman of Commonwealth Games Scotland, added: “I am delighted to see the addition of Aggreko to the Glasgow 2014 sponsor family. The company has a strong track record of supporting large sporting events and I’m sure that experience will be valuable when providing temporary power for every Games competition venue and the Athletes Village.”
