Star Events has delivered a floating house stunt for agency TBWA to celebrate new rules on short-term lets in London.

With no available barge capable of providing the required ‘foundations’ for a two-bedroom house, replete with kitchen, living room, bathroom and garden, Star Events built a bespoke floating structure, which was licensed by the Port of London Authority.

Star, which has delivered waterborne showcases for Jaguar and Cortana, worked with regular collaborators, including Setsquare Staging and Livett’s Launches, to bring the activation into fruition.

Taken from order to completion in just four weeks, the project was launched on the River Thames and sailed straight into a celebration of media coverage on Monday (18 May).

Star Events’ project manager Gavin Scott said: “The floating house was a particularly challenging and complex project, pulled together in a short timescale. It’s a great example of what can be achieved when you have the right team of specialist contractors.”

The house docks in Putney at the end of this week and comes in the wake of the Deregulation Act, passed last month, which means Londoners are now free to rent their homes for up to 90 days a year.

The ‘Floating House at Number 1, Thames’ offers bespoke living quarters, including two bedrooms, a bathroom and a living room, and a garden complete with dog kennel and wisteria.
