Having raised more than £10,000 and booked 30 bands through its own initiatives, fan funded/steered Alt Fest 2014 has taken to Kickstarter to generate the next tranche of money. It will be used to book headliners and further develop the festival infrastructure.

Fields of the Nephilim, VNV Nation, Atari Teenage Riot, Covenant, Front 242, Eisbrecher, The March Violets, Suicide Commando, Diary of Dreams, Alec Empire, Die So Fluid are among the bands already confirmed for Alt Fest, which will take place at Boughton House in Kettering from August 15 to 17 next year. 

The funding raised has also allowed organisers, Dom and Missy, founders of Club AntiChrist, to plan the festival layout, book a production company, establish a bespoke website, Facebook profile, Twitter feed and appoint a ticketing agent. The festival has linked up with ticketlogic.com to create state-of-the-art wristbands, plan e-teams, start designing merchandise and much more as well.

“We aren’t a big corporate machine, and we aren’t out to fleece our customers. We just want to create and run a festival where every alternative person can come together to have a good time” Missy said.

“Alt-Fest is the people’s festival. Everyone can be involved, everyone has a say, every part belongs to the people,” Dom added. “It’s the people united and working together that will make Alt-Fest successful, the bands, the performers our Alt-festers united to create an amazing festival that’s truly led by its own crowd.”

Already a proven model in the world of feature films, Kickstarter has provided a platform for more than 2.5m people to successfully back more than 30,000 creative projects since the site launched in America in April 2009. It is estimated that around 10 per cent of the films accepted into the Sundance and Tribeca film festivals this year were funded by the inititiative.
