Cricket fans enjoying the 4th Ashes Test will view good work from Arena Group when the camera inevitably pans to the crowd.

Showing the firm has no boundaries, it installed 5,000 grandstand seats into Durham County Cricket Club ahead of the match, set to finish on 13 August.

Arena was contracted to install 5,178 seats of its patented clearview™ product, increasing the club’s capacity to 15,500.

Configured into two grandstands; one standing at 7m high, 38 rows deep and one smaller grandstand of 300 seats, it follows the curved boundary lines giving fans optimum views of the action.

“The clearview™ system was used in venues across the Olympics and was initially developed by our team as a temporary grandstand solution,” said Arena Seating sales and marketing director Dave Withey. “However, its inherent stability, ergonomic seats and extreme durability make it ideal for venues like Durham looking for a flexible, cost-effective permanent solution which can be increased quickly and efficiently when demand requires – utilising identical clearview™ rental stock.”

Ground work began in May with construction completed ahead of the match. The initial installation includes 2,000 temporary seats added to the permanent grandstands, bringing the total capacity to 17,500.

“As a ground we’ve always used a lot of temporary infrastructure but winning the Ashes we wanted to permanently increase our capacity and put ourselves on a level playing ground with other international venues,” said Durham CCC chief operating officer Richard Dowson.

“We’ve worked with Arena Group since 1999 with their team providing temporary seating and hospitality structures. So for us, they were the obvious choice. We have a very strong working relationship and the clearview™ product offers the ultimate in customer experience.

“The beauty also is that we now have permanent infrastructure but we still get the flexibility to adapt and add more as required – such as we’re doing for the Ashes. This is vital for the club in the future as we look to host a wider range or larger scale events.”

Meanwhile, Arena Structures is also working with the club, supplying corporate double-deck hospitality boxes for the five-day event.
