Blur, Oasis and Chris Martin are embroiled in Glastonbury headliner rumours as Shangri-La’s ‘political’ theme is unveiled.

Speaking to the Daily Express, Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis said that two British bands are scheduled for the Sunday headline slot. When pressed on whether there will be two seperate slots, he replied: “No. They [presumably two different bands] will be joining forces – that’s not been done really.”

The comments prompted speculation that feuding brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher could reform Oasis for the event, which occurs in Somerset in late June.

The possibility of Noel Gallagher and Blur’s Damon Albarn teaming up for a performance was also posited. The pair have been famously amicable in recent years, performing together at the Royal Albert Hall for a Teenage Cancer Trust gig in 2013.

Among the bookies’ favourites to headline are British acts Coldplay, The Stone Roses, Paul McCartney and Pink Floyd. The announcement means that international performers Prince and Taylor Swift are out of the running.

Shangi-La

Meanwhile, it has been announced that Shangi-La’s theme will be ‘Politics, Sholitics’ and will host ‘Shang Re-election’ after the general one this May.

A ‘bizarre but brilliant’ circus meets carnival ‘wonderland of curiosities’ will feature. Shangri-La is open from 6pm-5am from Thursday through Sunday of the June event at Worthy farm.

“This year’s story aims to help people connect with the political process and demonstrate that politics can be for them and by them,” said Shangri-La in a statement. “After the flinchingly realistic horrors of last years Corporate Hell, this year Shangri-Hell has been occupied. Every office has been taken over by some of the 99% desperate for change. Each Nano-venue has become a political party, and everyone here has a point to make.”

They added: “There is nothing too silly or too serious to be said, there is only the process of activism, the skies filled with banners, the streets packed with protesters and placards.”
