Access All AreasBristol has relinquished its title of European Green Capital after a year of celebratory events.
The Closing Ceremony took place earlier this month at Colston Hall, and included presentations and exhibitions from Bristol Mayor George Ferguson, local community groups and Bristol 2015 ambassadors, as well as a procession from local children.
Richmond Event Management (REM), which has worked on a number of Bristol 2015 Ltd-led events for the Green year, helped transform Colston Hall for the event.
REM sub-contracted a range of local suppliers, including Utopium and Evans Audio Visual Staging, for the Closing Ceremony. A bespoke 45ft x 14ft screen was purpose-built for the event.
To keep in the spirit of the Green ethos, projection used low level output and consumption. Two vehicles were used to transport the set and equipment, and all local suppliers and crew worked within five miles of the venue so that transport could be shared. Kit was also reformed and reused from the Opening Ceremony.
“We’re proud to have been involved with European Green Capital from the start,” said Mike Richmond, REM’s managing director. “Colston Hall is an extremely busy local venue, which meant we had just one day to load in and four hours to load out. We worked closely with other local suppliers to transform this iconic local venue, carefully managing the carbon budget in line with the philosophy of this great year.”
Bristol has now handed over the European Green Capital title for 2016 to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia.
