Speaking at International Confex this week, the SECC’s Kathleen Warden told Access that the “legacy of the Commonwealth Games is confidence”.

“The support on a national level has been really strong,” she said. “The political point of view, locally and nationally, is now so switched on to events campus-wide.”

That support has directly impacted the SECC, Warden told us, giving them the confidence to bid for bigger events off the back of the success of the Games.

“We now have empirical evidence as a city, a destination, and as a venue that we can cope with these big events,” she said. “As a campus, the SECC has demonstrated that it is capable of delivering world class events.”

Warden also said that the events industry should keep its eyes open for some big events at the SECC in the coming year, though at time of writing she could not make any firm announcements.

International Confex is currently taking place at Olympia, London and is co-located with the Event Production Show. Today (19 February) is the final day for both shows.
