Bristol City Council has announced the shortlisted designs for the £90m RIBA Bristol Arena. 

The 12,000-capacity venue is due to open around the end of 2017, and five firms have submitted eye-catching designs for the brand new arena. 

Grimshaw (architects of the Eden project), IDOM (designers of the Bilbao Arena), Populous (architects for the London Olympic Stadium), White Arkitekter (architects for Kiruna City Plan), and Wilkinson Eyre (architects for Liverpool Arena) have all submitted designs. 

The public will be able to see the designs at displays around Bristol until mid-February. A panel made up of Bristol mayor George Ferguson, representatives from Bristol City Council, and lead sponsor RIBA will then choose the winning design in March. 

“This is a once in a generation opportunity to design a great performance venue for the city region that also boosts the regeneration of the Temple Quarter Enterprise Zone,” said Ferguson.
