Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, has been announced as the royal president of the Southbank Centre’s Women of the World (WOW) Festival, the Evening Standard reports.

The weeklong festival, supported by Bloomberg, celebrates the achievements of women and girls, and explores the important issues that they face every day. 

More than 20,000 visitors are expected at the event, which runs from 1 to 8 March. Female talent across arts, politics, economics, fashion, science, health, sport, business and education will be showcased, with 300 speakers and performers scheduled at 200 events. 

Camilla, who has been involved with WOW since 2011, hosted an event at the Southbank Centre last night (16 February) to promote the festival. Among the guests were the Southbank Centre’s artistic director and WOW’s founder Jude Kelly, Grayson and Philippa Perry, Amanda Wakely, and Baroness Martha Lane Fox.

“Camilla has been interested and shown she’s committed to gender equality ever since she became involved,” Kelly told the Standard. “Her support gives our global platform even more momentum.” 

The event this year coincides with International Women’s Day on 8 March. Tickets are on sale now.
