While we usually stick to our live and outdoor event routes here at Access, the team couldn’t wait to get a first look at Camm & Hooper’s latest project, Banking Hall on Cornhill Street, at their glamorous Gatsby themed launch event last night.

A 20th century revival

The revival of Banking Hall, overseen by interior specialist Russell Sage Studio, has transformed the Grade II-listed venue. The event space, measuring at 27m x 14.3m, has a high 10.8m ceiling and a ‘skylight’ that create a bright and airy feel – very much appreciated as we arrived from our simmering Tube journey.

Acoustic live music, beautifully orchestrated to fit with the mood of the evening, greeted us as we entered. The towering space framed a central stage structure that also hosted a more adventurous acrobatic duo, who wowed the audience with their poise and strength later in the evening.

Cocktails and macaroons

There was ample selection of cocktails and bubbly to go around, as well as seafood, salad bar and carved meat stations. Delicious macaroons topped it all off. The excitable chatter and laughter flowed through the space elegantly, allowing the music to be heard and the high ceilings helped elevate a feeling of grandeur for the guests.

A new venue is born

Set in the heart of the City of London, the new venue has been described by Camm & Hooper as an “aspirational event space’” that will cater for more than 600 guests, a welcome addition to the luxurious portfolio of venues for corporate events, awards and private hire in London.

Claire Lawson, managing director of Camm & Hooper, said: “Following the successful launch of Tanner & Co in April 2013, we are very excited that our second project is now underway. Banking Hall will revolutionise the choice of events spaces on offer in the capital by providing a unique, elegant and adaptable venue in one of London’s busiest business locations.”
