Gallowglass Group has appointed Jonathan Sigsworth as managing director of Gallowglass Crewing as part of a restructure.

The restructure will free-up group managing director Nick Grecian to focus his energies exclusively on extending the Group’s sphere of operation in the UK and overseas. The move follows the recent appointment of head of HR, Chris Parry-Jones to the Gallowglass Group Board.

Sigsworth joined Gallowglass in 2002 as part of the Northern management team co-ordinating crewing operations for the Manchester Commonwealth Games. He became senior regional manager in 2008 and since that time has had major involvement in key projects including the London 2012 Olympics, Glastonbury and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Nick Grecian said: “Crewing has been our core business for the 18 years of our existence, and by extending our services in recent years to include stand-alone health and safety, training and sustainability companies we have strengthened our offering and our skill sets to be able to provide integrated support services for corporate events, exhibitions, festivals and official ceremonies.

“As the Group continues to extend its reach, it has become essential to ensure that Crewing is led by a dedicated individual with all the experience and focus that Jon can bring to the role.”

Gallowglass is the largest manpower-provider of its kind in the UK and Europe – and supports the broadcast and theatre industries as well as live events and productions, fulfilling the vast majority of labour requirements at the studio complex at the heart of Media City, home to the BBC and, progressively, ITV.

Sigsworth said: “To be equipped to provide large numbers of trained qualified staff on demand – to meet any operational brief from assembling stage sets to full site management – requires a strong management structure, state-of-the art systems and operational discipline.  I’m excited at the prospect of taking over the reins of Gallowglass Crewing and ensuring that we maintain the levels of management and service required by, and delivered throughout the London 2012 Olympics.”

The Gallowglass Group has bases throughout England, and in Scotland, Spain, France, Monaco and Qatar.

Grecian added: “We’ve had offices overseas for several years now, but access to large-scale international projects has meant that my own responsibilities have been split between the UK and overseas. France and Spain are doing well, Qatar is now fully established and, with our eyes on the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, we have plans to open in Australia.

“Here in the UK we have won a number of government contracts in recent years, which have extended our expertise in delivering large-scale events, so we see this as a major source of future business as well.  We’re currently developing an offering that we believe will revolutionise the operational side of public event management.”

In 2013 the Gallowglass Group was appointed by the Corporate Officer of the House of Lords and the Corporate Officer of the House of Commons for the provision and management of infrastructure, manpower and services for events across the Parliamentary Estate, for a period of 10 years.
