More than 80 life-size LEGO brick animals have been installed at Marwell Zoo, creating The Great Brick Safari for visitors.

Built by Bright Bricks, based in Hampshire, the animal models are built up from over two million LEGO bricks. The sculptures ranging from butterflies to a full size elephant weighing one and a half tonnes. The 81 models represent 27 different species.

“We have had a fantastic summer at Marwell,” said Sean Mannie, Marwell Zoo’s director of Guest Services. “The LEGO brick trail has proven to be a huge draw and will no doubt continue to delight our zoo guests right up until 1 October . It’s an interactive and engaging way of highlighting some of our really important species, as well as welcoming some wonderful new animals to the zoo.”

The Great Brick Safari is currently on display outdoors at Marwell Zoo but will move indoors to form the centrepiece of Bricklive, taking place at the NEC from 26–29 October this year. All the models will be on display with several interactive features where visitors can make a penguin dive into a LEGO brick pit to building a piece of a life-size Hippo.

“To work with Bright Bricks to become the first UK zoo to host an interactive LEGO brick experience is a real thrill. LEGO is so iconic and continues to appeal to both adults and children and we are delighted to have the sculptures complementing the 100s of animals that live in our 140 acre park,” added Mannie.
