Access All AreasTokyo Nights, the latest project from the people behind East London’s Summer Tales and Night Tales, launched last week (29 October).
The Halo Group provided bespoke temporary structure design and build, site styling, production and creative lighting services.
Guests were transported to the back streets of Tokyo, complete with a bespoke light box entrance sign, neon detailing and authentic typography and Japanese street art applied to the architectural features.
This year’s main feature, The Love Hotel showcased Halo’s production and art teams’ scenic painting techniques to recreate the look and feel of chipped plaster, rusty metals and other distressed elements which will interplay with traditional street signage to create a fully immersive and authentic environment. Inside, individually wallpapered walls, beading detail and oversize beds feature.
Other “downtown” features include the food trader’s street with individually styled concessions lining the parade. Across site and in stark contrast to downtown, The Halo Group will also be installing a traditional Japanese style two-story structure, which will feature a large backlit bar fabricated from traditional materials. This part of the space will showcase a hanging lanterns fascia design with clean lines, light wood finishes, sliding back lit screens and low level seating.
“Night Tales and Summer Tales are huge highlights in our calendar. We are now in our fourth year working in partnership with Background Bars and Red Gallery and each year the partnership raises the bar again,” said Emma-Jane Ireland, director of live events at The Halo Group. “What we love about Night Tales and Summer Tales is the organisers commitment to pushing the boundaries of what people expect from a pop-up in todays crowded market.
“The project uses many of our departments, including our in-house design team, our set builders, carpenters, specialist prop makers, structure crew, art team and more. We can’t wait for the launch of this hotly anticipated series at the end of the month.”
