The HBAA is maintaining its National Placement Scheme in 2013, offering event management degree students an agreed structure of work experience opportunities via its collection of 80 agent and 208 venue members. Etc Venues, Banks Sadler, Conference Care and Lime Venue Portfolio all took part in the first year of the initiative.

With six in 10 students struggling to find work after finishing university last summer, the placement provides a valuable sandwich year in employment,
while increasing the volume of young talent
and enthusiasm into the event industry.

The HBAA has partnered with a number of universities
which offer four-year degrees in event
management, Coventry, London Metropolitan,
Bournemouth, Leeds Metropolitan, the University of Greenwich and Oxford Brookes among them.

“Working at Lime Venue Portfolio has given me opportunities some people would only dream of, such as working at Club France during the 2012 Olympics,” Leeds Met student, Amy Bowden, pictured, who is in the middle of a placement sourced through the scheme, said.

“This is direct experience of the industry, and it has been extremely beneficial to understand events from a sales, operations and marketing perspective and has enabled me to see where my strengths are best utilised. This has been a huge stepping stone in my personal development and I am really looking forward to see what the next months have in store.”
