Artist Damien Hirst has been announced as the designer of next year’s BRIT Awards statue.

Hirst follows Vivienne Westwood and Sir Peter Blake, who shaped the gongs in their own images this year and in 2011 respectively.

“We are delighted that Damien will become the third extraordinary creative Briton to reimagine the BRIT statue,” awards’ committee chairman, David Joseph, said. “He is truly one of the most important British artists and his unique vision will make winning a 2013 BRIT an even more special proposition.”

James Corden will host the ceremony at The O2 Arena on February 20 for a record equalling fourth time. The ceremony will be broadcast in the UK on ITV1.
