Festival Republic, organiser of Latitude, has announced its desire to raise the capacity of the festival by 5,000.

The increase would bring Latitude’s attendance to 39,000.

The local council for the festival, which takes place in Henham Park near Southwold, will put the application out to the public, who have until the beginning of February to comment.

When Latitude began in 2006, as a festival with a “genteel, less manic feel”, around 10,000 visitors attended the event.

Nowadays the event welcomes more than three times that, and features some of the biggest names in comedy, music and theatre, including Franz Ferdinand, Sigur Ros and Tom Jones.

The origins of Latitude were explored in the cover feature for the March 2016 issue of Access All Areas, read it here.
