Government thanks event industry for DCMS survey response

The Department of Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) has thanked the UK events industry for ‘widespread input’ into its Events Industry Survey.

The survey was conducted at the end of 2014, as part of a DCMS taskforce's efforts to look at ways government can add value to the UK's events industry.

The Business Visits & Events Partnership (BVEP) coordinated the distribution of the survey, and last year stressed the need for the industry to respond as comprehensively as possible. The BVEP expects to receive the results within the next month.

The exercise is part of a larger programme of work currently being undertaken by DCMS to develop a joint strategy to support growth in the events industry both by retaining existing events, and targeting potential new events that would benefit by being hosted in Britain, as well as looking at how events can feed into wider social and economic policies.

Writing on behalf of DCMS to the BVEP, John-Paul Corcoran said: “I would like to thank you for your participation in the Events Industry Survey. I can confirm that having received the data, the department is in the process of collating the information that you have so generously provided.

“We are now finalising a report that will set out recommendations to fulfil the Secretary of State’s objective to highlight the UK as a key destination for business conferences and events. We very much look forward to sharing the recommendations with you.”

Simon Hughes, vice chair of the BVEP (pictured) said it's a positive sign that DCMS is getting the right level of engagement from the industry.

Ensuring that they are speaking to the right people and helping them take an informed, consultative approach to working with the industry has been critical.

“All of our partners are obviously looking forward to hearing the results of the work undertaken by the DCMS and seeing what tangible proposals government has developed to provide practical support to the industry that will enable us to build on the economic value we create for the country.”
