New commission opportunity announced for disabled artists

The Northern Festivals Network and Unlimited Impact have invited disabled artists and companies producing disability-led projects to request support for the creation of new work.
The work should be put on outdoors and aimed at families attending Greenfield festivals, to be presented and touring at four festivals in the summer 2017 season.
The Northern Festivals Network is led by Just So producer Wild Rumpus and is a consortium of festivals in the north of England committed to increasing high quality art aimed at families.
Umlimited Impact is an extension of the Unlimited programme for disabled artists, aimed specifically at developing and inspiring the next generation of young disabled people with an interest in the arts.
Jo Verrent, senior producer at Unlimited Impact said: If you are an artist, you make work – any kind of work – and it should be the same for disabled artists. But too often disabled artists are not represented equally. Work for outdoor spaces and work for family audiences are both sectors where work by disabled artists is under represented.
For us, this commission opportunity is a chance to readdress that. And it's a well-designed process too – artists get a chance to see the sites and festivals before submitting a full application, so that they can stretch their practice. I genuinely can't wait to see what will be commissioned.
More information about the commission can be found on the Unlimited Impact website and the deadline for submissions is 23 June.
