The Shelter River Rat Race at London’s Royal Victoria Dock last weekend (16 August) raised more than £50,000 for the charity Shelter.

Around 1,500 competitors entered the Rat Race Events-organised race, which started at Excel London and comprised of six miles of swimming, wading, diving and kayaking through obstacles.

For the race, live event and brand marketing firm Gorilla Marketing and Events designed and built around 30 obstacles. Two bespoke scaffold structures were also built, as well as the six-metre deep aquatic plunge that marked the end of the course.

“The obstacles helped to ensure an exciting, challenging and fun experience for all the competitors,” said Rat Race Events’ MD Jim Mee. “This is the first year we have hosted the event in the capital and it was great to see everyone getting into the spirit of it.”

Shelter works to fight homelessness and provides vital help and advice for families and individuals facing losing their homes.
