An ensemble of top musicians, friends and former band members will gather at the O2 Academy Brixton on 8 January to celebrate what would have been David Bowie’s 70th birthday.

The event will form part of a series of global goodwill concerts, entitled Celebrating David Bowie, with proceeds from the London show going to charity Children & the Arts.

All of the one-off concerts will take place in cities with a connection to David Bowie, each with a core 30 musicians performing at each show and 40 or more local musicians.

The idea for the series grew out of two informal shows, which took place in Los Angeles and San Francisco in the spring of 2016. The shows featured well-known names such as Ewan McGregor, Seal and Gary Oldman, who was a close friend of Bowie’s.

Oldman will be present at the London edition of the series, along with former Bowie band members Mike Garson, Earl Slick, Adrian Belew, Mark Plati, Gerry Leonard, Gail Ann Dorsey, Sterling Campbell, Zachary Alford, Holly Palmer and Catherine Russell and other special guests.
