Plant hire firm Hewden invests £61 million

Plant hire firm Hewden has invested £61m in its fleet and said it is a sign of confidence in the market.

The hire fleet has also been boosted in response to demand for the company’s Core Fleet Guarantee – which offers next-day delivery of the 30 most popular plant and access machines.

Launched in February this year, 20,363 deliveries have been made with 20,115 delivered on time.

Hewden has placed an order with Caterpillar dealer Finning for more than 450 new telehandlers, in a deal worth more than £25million. Hewden is also committing a further £10m in excavators and dumpers with £7m going on powered access, and a further £9m on cranes.

In addition, £11.4m will be spent on a range of initiatives including 20 Scania tractor units and 13 new trailers, providing greater fleet efficiency and improved logistics to support the 31 depot network.

“The announcement of some £61m demonstrates a confidence in the market and a commitment to customers that at Hewden we have the kit customers want, where they want it, when they want it,” said CEO Kevin Parkes.

“The new machines arriving immediately in our fleet will quite simply allow us to say yes to more customers.”
