BBC One’s flagship New Year’s Eve live music extravaganza, ‘Queen & Adam Lambert Rock Big Ben Live’, featured content by Really Creative Media (RCM).

The show, presented by Radio One’s Greg James and Gemma Cairney, featured backdrop content by RCM.

RCM worked closely with the production team to transpose the show for the intimate setting of Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, an unconventional location for a TV broadcast that was optimised by LD Rob Sinclair with architectural lighting for the domed roof and a completely redesigned rig from the tour.

RCM’s content featured a mix of animation and video footage and while the tour designs could be reused, everything needed to be reformatted to fit the new display dimensions and reprogrammed to the new time codes.

“During the tour, a selection of the content that had been produced was cut in favour of live feeds of the band in the larger venues, but for this intimate setting and nature of the TV broadcast, it was decided to reinstate this to create an engaging backdrop,” said RCM’s managing director Nick Dew. “Some elements of the content would have been recognisable to fans that saw the tour, such as the iconic archive camera footage featuring Freddie Mercury, but the animations were fresh and exciting, synched perfectly with the rhythms.”

Two projectors were used specifically for the moving moments of Freddie Mercury’s original performances of “Love of my Life” for a bright and strong projected image. A further two projectors were used for the rest of the set.

Catalyst Media Server programming and operation was provided by James Adkins of Really Creative Media.

Over 14 million people tuned in to see the band perform 14 songs in the build up to the live firework display at midnight and then a further four to kick start 2015.
