The famous streets of Chinatown in London will host an assortment of entertainment and activities for families on Sunday 27 July.

It will be the first festival dedicated to families held in the historical district, which has formed an important part of London’s cultural and cosmopolitan make-up for decades.

Rouge Events have been commissioned by property business, Shaftsbury plc, to produce the new family event. The focal point for a huge variety of acts scheduled to perform throughout the day will be at the two Lisle Street and Gerrard Street stages. Acts booked for the first stage include traditional Chinese performances, singers, ribbon dancers, drummers and break dancers. Further martial arts and Chinese circus performers will be on the second stage, which has also been tipped to feature a gravity-defying cube spinning display.

Rouge Events are working closely with their clients Shaftesbury, Westminster City Council, Four Communications, the London Chinatown Chinese Association, and the Chinese Community Centre in the run up to the event and are anticipating a positive response from visitors attending the event.

“We are thrilled to be involved in this exciting new public event right in the heart of London’s Chinatown,” said Rouge creative director Nathan Homan. “We’ve got our fingers crossed for fantastic weather for what will hopefully become one of London’s must attend family events of the summer.”

Chinese magicians, jugglers, stilt walkers, moving statues and Shaolin warrior monks will all been seen dotted around the streets throughout the Family Day, which will culminate in a lion dance procession – one of the mainstays of any Chinese celebration.

The Chinatown Family Day will run from midday through to 5pm and is completely free to attend. For more information visit www.chinatownlondon.org or follow @LondonChinatown
