Star Events Group supplied stage, rigging, grandstand, ancillary structures and miles of fencing and barriers to AEG Live’s Invictus Games’ Closing Concert.

The concert (14 September) was the first big event for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park’s south lawn since the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Headlined by Foo Fighters in front of a 26,000-strong crowd, and broadcast by the BBC, the concert crowned a phenomenal four days of sport for injured servicemen and women, motivated by Prince Harry.

As Official Supplier to AEG Live, together with parent company Beaver 84, Star Events provided for Unspun’s Opening Ceremony before adapting the kit to accommodate Foo Fighters and nine other Closing Concert acts, together with a succession of medal presentations.

“There were two very different sets of infrastructure in the original plans,” said Star Events’ special projects director Roger Barrett, “but through cooperation from all involved, Unspun and AEG Live were able to share resources, with all the obvious benefits.”

Star Events clad the grandstand, stage right, with vinyl-wrapped solid panels from its Vista range, combining the requirement for a clean, corporate finish with the need to prevent any access underneath, in step with stringent security measures.

“Star’s experience, and its solutions to the demands of putting a new event into a tight new space, were integral elements to the success of the Invictus Games’ Closing Concert,” said senior vice president of events at AEG Live Jim King.
