Access All AreasThe British Music Experience opens today as a new national museum based in Liverpool. It features interactive installations and artefacts from the history of pop and rock.
This collection of music memorabilia includes over 600 artefacts from important moments in musical history. From the Beatles, through to Adele, the museum has outfits from David Bowie’s Ziggy Stardust era, Spice Girls costumes and Noel Gallagher’s Epiphone Union Jack Sheraton guitar.
The Mayor of Liverpool, Joe Anderson OBE, was there to cut the ribbon outside the Cunard Building. “Music is entwined with the city’s history, present and future,” he said. “The Cunard Building itself played a vital role in shaping the industry thanks to the music that travelled across the Atlantic by those travelling on the Cunard Vessels.”
“Music then immersed itself in our culture and influenced many aspiring musicians, including four young men who wanted to perform their own rock ‘n’ roll and then went on to become the most famous band in the world,” the Major continued.
The museum also contains Buddy Holly and the Crickets’ ‘London Fog’ jacket and Lifetime Achievement Grammy award.
“The British Music Experience adds another dimension to our tourism offer which will benefit existing businesses and boost the local economy,” said Anderson. “Undoubtedly, BME will be hugely popular as music is a major cultural driving force and I wish the team every success in their new Liverpool home.”
