The closure of the venue comes “after careful consideration by Vinopolis’ owners and board”, and despite a reported successful year of trading for the event spaces. Management described the move as “the best possible decision for shareholders”.
 
Situated in the Victorian railway arches of London Bridge, Vinopolis has hosted events including the Lorraine Kelly Fashion Awards, The Apprentice and large-scale conferences for companies such as IBM.
 
“It is naturally a very sad day, Vinopolis is something of a London landmark for event bookers and conferences but this is the best possible decision for the business and its shareholders,” MD Samantha Anderson said. “We have come to the end of what could reasonably be achieved with the wine experience and feel that it is time for new life to be breathed into the timeless space. After 16 years we will close the doors proudly after a year of celebrating what has been achieved in style.
 
“I am looking forward to the year ahead and to giving the building a magnificent send off. It is an utterly unique destination and come 2016 it will be gone, so we want as many people to experience what we have to offer while they can.”
 
Vinopolis’ event spaces, restaurants and wine experience will all close on 31 December 2015. It is thought that the existing 15 permanent staff will lose their jobs at the end of this year. Management has said it will work hard to be flexible with people’s needs around finding new employment.
